Hello Everyone,
This week we learned about copyright and why is it important.
Intellectual property protection is an important part of the digital age as the
easy access to information has made us less aware of the work created by
others. Back when libraries still existed and people use to read books we the
users were very self-aware that the information we are using is not ours, as we
were getting our information from something physical like a book. However, the information we access on the
internet feels personal as we can access it on out personal computers.
The use of information that does not belong to us is by no
means off limits that being said whenever we use that information it is
important that we give the proper credit to the author. As in failing to do so
we can face charges such as intellectual theft and academic misconduct. While researching
this topic I came across an interesting video. The video in a creative manner explains the reasoning
behind the importance of attribution.
This week is also used the tool Animoto, I can’t say that I was
impressed by the tool as first it is not free so I am not sure how practical it
is for a student who is living on a shoestring
budget. However, I did find the tool to
be innovative as it is a different take on presentations. I really enjoyed
using it as the user-friendly and doesn’t
require much time to understand. I am
not sure on how useful this tool can be for academic presentations as you can’t
really write much on the slides. I had to
use creative means to incorporate the citations in today’s presentation, I
wrote the citations in Microsoft word
used the snipping tool to create a picture and add it to the presentation.
This week on my Feedly in keeping up with the change in
weather I read an article call to cruise or not to cruise (Click here). Every year
I start making plans for going on a cruise and like every year I get scared. Even
after being an excellent swimmer and a
certified lifeguard I am terrified of the
ocean (it has sharks in it). Besides being terrified I have also noticed that
cruises are extremely pricey and I am as broke as Wimpy from Popeye (I will gladly
pay to Tuesday for a hamburger today). If you don’t get that reference then I
am sorry but that guy was hilarious. But on to my conundrum to cruise or not to
cruise because of my Co-op I am not as broke as before but the fear of the
ocean is still real. I would love to hear your opinions.

Hello Keval,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the interesting post! I completely agree with the importance of copyright and the necessary requirements of citations to give credit to appropriate authors of the content. As a student, we have been taught about the importance of citations and giving credit where it’s due especially when it involves using other author’s work in essays or research projects to avoid academic misconduct (plagiarism) since information on the web is easily accessible. A significant aspect of copyright from a business perspective is that protects companies from being flooded with counterfeit products and copycat brands that other businesses originally came up with in the marketplace. Furthermore, copyright promotes entrepreneurship by encouraging individuals and companies to build and create new ideas. Overall, I enjoyed using Animoto to depict the importance of Copyright and share the underlying message to fellow digital citizens.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI like how you used other tools when the ones you were using fell short (ie. snipping tool). I find myself doing this a lot and am beginning to see how important it is to know these alternate means in order to complete tasks! Great blog post!
